Jamaica coach Speid Fires Warning Ahead of Unity Cup Final Against Nigeria

Jamaica national football team head coach Rudolph Speid has warned that “every team is beatable” as his side prepares for another showdown with the Nigeria national football team in the 2026 Unity Cup final.
Jamaica secured their place in the final with a comfortable 2-0 victory over India national football team, thanks to goals from debutant Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon.
The result sets up a repeat of last year’s final, where Nigeria edged Jamaica 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Speaking after the victory, Speid acknowledged Nigeria’s pedigree but expressed confidence that his youthful squad can spring a surprise.
“You guys (Nigeria) have always beaten us every single time before. I am hoping that’s not the case this time. But it’s always exciting to play against Nigeria. They play exciting football and are one of the powerhouses in Africa.”
The Jamaican tactician revealed that his coaching staff had already begun studying Nigeria’s recent performances, including their 2-0 semifinal win over Zimbabwe national football team.
“We saw them play last night. We’ll do some more analysis on what they will be doing and then we will decide if we need to change anything.”
Asked whether the Super Eagles could be beaten, Speid responded confidently: “They are very, very good but every team is beatable, and we have to be aware of what they bring.
“We have some things to bring ourselves. Jamaica is still in a rebuilding stage, with lots of young players. Nobody is a winner before the game is played.”
The final promises another entertaining encounter between two familiar rivals. Apart from the 2004 edition, which was played as a round-robin tournament, Nigeria and Jamaica have met in every Unity Cup final, adding another chapter to one of the competition’s most enduring rivalries.
Nigeria, boosted by the emergence of debutant Femi Azeez, who scored twice against Zimbabwe, will be aiming to retain the trophy, while Jamaica seek revenge for last year’s penalty heartbreak.
