Esther Okoronkwo Returns to Training in Major Boost for Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON 2026

Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have received a significant lift with the return of forward Esther Okoronkwo to training following her recovery from injury.

The talented left-footed attacker had been sidelined in recent weeks and was unavailable for the Super Falcons’ international friendly double-header against Senegal as she continued her rehabilitation.

However, Okoronkwo has now confirmed that she is back to full fitness and ready to resume action ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco.

The forward shared the encouraging update with fans through her social media account, posting:

“Back on my feet. Mission en route 👊🏾”

Her return will be welcomed by the Super Falcons’ technical crew as preparations intensify for the competition, where Nigeria will be aiming to reclaim the African title.

Okoronkwo has become an important figure in the national team setup thanks to her creativity, versatility, and eye for goal. Her ability to operate across the frontline provides valuable options for the coaching staff as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the tournament.

The Super Falcons recently concluded a successful round of friendly matches against Senegal, and the addition of a fully fit Okoronkwo further strengthens a squad already packed with experience and attacking quality.

With WAFCON 2026 fast approaching, Nigeria will be hoping that the return of key players such as Okoronkwo can boost their chances of mounting a successful challenge for continental glory in Morocco.

The forward’s recovery comes at an ideal time as the Super Falcons continue to build momentum in their quest to add another African title to their illustrious history.
