Joy Omewa Reflects on Super Falcons Experience After Senegal Friendlies

Nigeria forward Joy Omewa has expressed her delight after featuring in Super Falcons’ two international friendly matches against Senegal, describing the experience as another important step in her growing international career.

The former Nottingham Forest striker was part of the squad that recorded back-to-back victories over the Teranga Lionesses, with the Super Falcons winning 2-1 in the first encounter before completing the double with a convincing 3-0 triumph in the second match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

For Omewa, the friendlies provided a valuable opportunity to represent Nigeria once again and contribute to the team’s preparations ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Super happy with the win today, an amazing performance from the girls in front of our home fans in Ikenne. Grateful to score my first two goals for Nigeria. A dream come true for my family and me. Big thanks to my coaches, teammates, and everyone supporting me.” She posted on X.

The young forward has continued to establish herself within the national team setup, earning valuable experience alongside some of Africa’s most accomplished players as Head Coach Justine Madugu fine-tunes his squad for the continental tournament.

Nigeria’s victories over Senegal highlighted the depth and quality within the Super Falcons squad, with several returning stars and emerging talents making strong impressions during the two matches.

Omewa’s involvement in both fixtures underlines the confidence the coaching crew has in her abilities as she continues to compete for a regular place in the team.

With preparations for WAFCON gathering momentum, the forward will be hoping to build on her recent appearances and strengthen her case for inclusion in Nigeria’s final squad for the tournament.

The Super Falcons head to Morocco aiming to extend their dominance in African women’s football, and players like Omewa will be eager to play a key role in the quest for another continental title.
