Dominik Szoboszlai signs new long-term Liverpool deal to 2031

Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has committed his long-term future to Liverpool by signing a new contract running until 2031, in a major statement of intent from the Premier League champions ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The deal ties one of Liverpool’s key performers to Anfield for the rest of the decade and comes as the club prepares for a new era under incoming head coach Andoni Iraola.

The next campaign will be Szoboszlai’s fourth in a Liverpool shirt since his move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 – and his first under Iraola’s leadership.

‘One of the greatest days of my life’

Speaking to the club’s official website, the number 8 said extending his stay on Merseyside was a landmark moment in his career.

He added that his enthusiasm for Liverpool remains undimmed.

The 25-year-old has quickly become a central figure at Anfield, both on and off the pitch, and his renewal underlines the club’s desire to build around a core of players who delivered the league title last season.

Key figure in Liverpool’s recent success

Since joining from Leipzig, Szoboszlai has made 147 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring 28 goals.

His debut campaign in England brought an immediate trophy as Liverpool lifted the League Cup, before he played a pivotal role in the club’s 2024-25 Premier League triumph.

Last season was his most impressive individually, with the midfielder producing 13 goals and 12 assists in 53 matches across competitions. That form saw him voted the club’s player of the season by fans, earning the “Standard Chartered” award.

At 25, Szoboszlai is entering what are traditionally considered peak years for a midfielder, and Liverpool’s decision to secure him on a deal through 2031 reflects both his current influence and his long-term importance to the squad.

Relentless drive for improvement

Szoboszlai said his motivation is fuelled by a constant desire to push beyond what he has already achieved.

That mentality has been evident in his performances since arriving in the Premier League, where he has combined high work-rate with creativity and goals from midfield.

His new deal also sends a clear message ahead of Iraola’s first season in charge, with Liverpool aiming to build on domestic success and compete strongly in Europe.

‘I want to win everything’

Looking ahead, Szoboszlai made clear that his ambitions with Liverpool remain as bold as when he first arrived at Anfield.

His commitment gives Liverpool stability in a key position as they look to defend their Premier League title and mount a fresh challenge for the Champions League under new management.

With a long-term contract secured and his role firmly established, Szoboszlai now heads into the 2026-27 campaign as one of the cornerstones of Liverpool’s next phase.
