Former Nigeria U-17 Captain Shakirat Moshood Joins Portuguese Club Torreense

Former Nigeria U-17 captain Shakirat Moshood has completed a two-year move to Portuguese top-flight side SCU Torreense, with the club officially unveiling the Nigerian defender on Wednesday after she arrived in Portugal to finalize the transfer.

The 18-year-old joins the Europa-bound club after an impressive season with Bayelsa Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, where her consistent displays at full-back established her as one of the country’s most exciting young talents.

Moshood’s rise to prominence began at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where she scored four goals to finish as the tournament’s third-highest scorer and helped Nigeria’s Flamingos reach the quarter-finals. Her outstanding performances earned her global recognition as one of the competition’s standout players.

She built on that success by captaining the Flamingos to another quarter-final finish at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco before finishing runner-up in the 2025 CAF Women’s Youth Player of the Year award.

Her impressive development has also earned her a place in Nigeria’s 28-player provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after playing a key role in the Falconets’ successful qualification campaign under head coach Moses Aduku.

Moshood’s move to Torreense marks her first professional stint in Europe and comes as the Portuguese side prepares for a campaign that includes participation in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup, providing the young Nigerian with an opportunity to test herself on the continental stage.

The transfer is another endorsement of the quality emerging from the NWFL, with Moshood becoming the latest Nigerian women’s football talent to secure a move to Europe through outstanding performances at both club and international levels.
