Dutch Giants Ajax Target Nigeria Star Tolu Arokodare After Wolves Fallout
Dutch champions Ajax have emerged as the latest club interested in signing Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare as the Nigerian edges closer to a departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
According to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, via VoetbalPrimeur, Ajax are closely monitoring Arokodare’s situation following his deteriorating relationship with Wolves, with the Eredivisie giants considering a move before the close of the summer transfer window.
Although Ajax have already strengthened their attack with the signing of Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo, the Amsterdam club remain keen to recruit another striker capable of offering a different tactical dimension.
Standing at 1.97 metres, Arokodare’s aerial ability, physical presence and hold-up play are viewed as qualities that could complement Ajax’s current attacking options as the club prepares for another demanding domestic and European campaign under head coach Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz.
The Nigerian joined Wolves from Belgian side KRC Genk in the summer of 2025 after an outstanding season that saw him finish as the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer with 23 goals.
However, his debut campaign in England failed to meet expectations.
The 25-year-old managed six goals and two assists in 38 appearances as Wolves endured a disappointing season that ended in relegation from the Premier League.
His struggles on the pitch were compounded by a series of disciplinary issues that reportedly damaged his relationship with the club.
Reports from England indicate that manager César Peixoto removed Arokodare from first-team activities after repeated internal disagreements, while the striker was also excluded from Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Portugal.
His situation reportedly reached a new low when a disagreement during training forced club officials to intervene after he allegedly refused instructions to leave the pitch.
Earlier in the year, Arokodare was also fined following a dressing-room altercation with teammate Mateus Mané, an incident that further weakened his standing within the squad.
With both player and club now seemingly preparing for a permanent separation, interest in the Nigerian has continued to grow across Europe.
Ajax are among several clubs monitoring his availability.
Italian Serie A sides Genoa and newly promoted Pisa have expressed interest, while Fiorentina previously explored a deal before negotiations stalled because of non-EU registration restrictions.
In Turkey, Trabzonspor have reportedly submitted a proposal structured as a loan with an option to buy, while Galatasaray and Beşiktaş have also been credited with long-standing interest in the striker.
With multiple clubs tracking his situation and Wolves open to his departure, Arokodare appears increasingly likely to secure a move before the transfer window closes as he looks to revive his career after a difficult spell in England.
