Kevin Akpoguma: Nigeria centre-back in frame for Frosinone move from free agency

Nigeria and Germany-qualified defender Kevin Akpoguma, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Frosinone as the Italians explore defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.

The 31-year-old centre-back, who most recently became a free agent after his last contract expired this summer, is understood to be on Frosinone’s shortlist as they look for experienced options at the heart of their back line. With Akpoguma unattached, any deal would not require a transfer fee, with his current market valuation listed at around €1.5 million.

Standing at 1.92m and preferring to operate on the right side of central defence, Akpoguma offers a profile that aligns with Frosinone’s search for physical presence and aerial strength in Serie A. The club are assessing whether to move forward with formal talks as they weigh up alternative targets in the Italian and wider European markets.

Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße on 19 April 1995, Akpoguma rose to prominence in Germany’s youth system, winning the European Under-19 Championship with Germany U19 in 2014 and collecting the prestigious Fritz Walter gold medal a year earlier. At club level, he was part of the Karlsruher SC side that won the German third tier and secured promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 2012-13.

Akpoguma has been without a club since 1 July 2026 and is free to negotiate immediately with interested sides, leaving Frosinone with a clear opportunity should they decide to push ahead with a deal.
