CAF fixes tentative August 6 for 2026/27 Champions League, Confederation Cup draw
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has tentatively scheduled the draw for the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup for August 6 in Cairo, Egypt.
The draw is expected to determine the matchups for the opening qualifying stages of both competitions, with clubs from across the continent awaiting confirmation of their opponents ahead of the new African club season.
CAF is yet to officially announce the final date, but sources indicate that Cairo has been selected as the venue for the ceremony, which will set the stage for the race toward the group phase of Africa’s two premier inter-club tournaments.
The preliminary round is expected to feature champions and high-ranking clubs from member associations, including representatives from Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Tunisia and other footballing nations across the continent.
For Nigerian clubs – Enugu Rangers, Rivers United, Shooting Stars and El Kanemi Warriors, the draw will be particularly significant as they seek to improve the country’s recent performances in CAF competitions and secure places in the lucrative group stage.
The 2026/27 campaign is also expected to attract increased attention following CAF’s continued efforts to enhance the profile and competitiveness of both the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
