Renato Nhaga reveals how Osimhen is shaping the next generation of African stars
Galatasaray midfielder Renato Nhaga has paid an emotional tribute to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, describing the Nigerian international as an inspiration to African footballers and revealing how the prolific forward has played a significant role in helping him settle at the Turkish champions.
Osimhen has grown into one of Galatasaray’s most influential figures since making his permanent move to the Istanbul giants last summer, earning admiration not only for his goalscoring exploits but also for his leadership and willingness to mentor younger teammates.
The Nigeria international has enjoyed a remarkable spell at RAMS Park, registering 59 goals and 16 assists in 74 appearances across all competitions while helping Galatasaray maintain their dominance in Turkish football.
His impact, however, extends beyond the pitch, with several teammates praising his professionalism, humility and commitment to supporting younger players within the squad.
Speaking in an interview with Le Marca Sports, Guinea-Bissau international Nhaga said Osimhen’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Africa’s biggest football stars has made him a role model for aspiring players across the continent.
“Osimhen is a very important figure for both me and all African players. He’s someone who came from nothing and made it all the way here. He’s a huge role model,” Nhaga said.
The young midfielder also revealed that Osimhen made him feel at home immediately after his arrival in Istanbul and has continued to guide him both on and off the field.
“He’s been supporting me from day one. He welcomed me very warmly. He always looks out for and protects me. By sharing examples from his own life, he helps me in my development.”
Nhaga joined Galatasaray during the 2026 winter transfer window and is regarded as one of the club’s brightest emerging midfield talents.
The youngster is expected to play a more prominent role under manager Okan Buruk during the 2026/2027 campaign and believes learning from experienced professionals like Osimhen will accelerate his development.
Osimhen’s influence has continued to grow within the Galatasaray dressing room, with the Super Eagles striker recently tipped by Buruk to become one of the club’s new captains following the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
The latest praise from Nhaga further underlines the Nigerian’s reputation as not only one of Europe’s most prolific strikers but also a respected leader whose impact reaches far beyond goals, inspiring the next generation of African footballers through both his achievements and his example.
