Nigeria 2-0 Côte d’Ivoire: Adegbuyi, Oparanmegwa seal four straight wins for Flamingos
Nigeria’s Flamingos continued their impressive run at the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup with a 2-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.
The victory extended Nigeria’s perfect record in the competition to four wins from four matches, further underlining the Flamingos’ strong start to the regional tournament.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi gave Nigeria the perfect start when she opened the scoring just four minutes into the encounter.
The FC Robo Queens forward capitalised on an early opportunity to put the Flamingos in front and give the visitors an advantage they maintained through the remainder of the first half.
Côte d’Ivoire attempted to respond as the game progressed, but Nigeria remained organised defensively and successfully protected their narrow advantage.
The hosts continued their search for an equaliser after the interval, forcing the Flamingos to remain disciplined as they attempted to manage the pressure and create opportunities of their own.
Nigeria eventually put the result beyond doubt seven minutes from full time when Pattra Oparanmegwa struck in the 83rd minute to double the Flamingos’ advantage.
Oparanmegwa’s late effort gave Nigeria the breathing space they needed as the Flamingos comfortably managed the closing stages to secure another clean-sheet victory.
The 2-0 triumph means Nigeria have now won all four of their matches in the competition, having earlier defeated Niger Republic, Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The Flamingos’ latest victory also came against the tournament hosts, making the result another significant statement from the Nigerian side as the competition approaches its decisive stages.
