Marseille consider January exit for Nigeria midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi

Marseille could sell or loan out Nigeria midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi during the January transfer window, according to a report from Get French Football News relayed by Afrik-Foot on 19 October.
Nnadi, 23, joined Marseille from Zulte Waregem for €6m in the winter window and made eight appearances during the second half of his first season in France.
However, Marseille’s coach does not consider the midfielder indispensable, reportedly leaving the club open to either a permanent transfer or a temporary move.
Financial pressure at Marseille
The club is also under scrutiny from the DNCG, French football’s financial regulator for professional clubs, after failing to satisfy its financial requirements in June.
Afrik-Foot reports that Marseille must restore balance to its accounts before June 2027. If they fail to do so, the club could face a points deduction.
That financial situation could increase the likelihood of a sale, as a permanent transfer would provide Marseille with more immediate funds. However, potential buyers may be reluctant to meet the valuation placed on Nnadi, meaning a loan remains a possibility.
A temporary move would allow the midfielder to continue his development elsewhere while remaining a Marseille player, rather than bringing the club the same financial benefit as a transfer.
Playing time key for Nigeria
Nnadi’s recent involvement has been limited, and his only start came against Angers in a 5-2 Marseille victory when the team was dealing with injuries.
In that match, Afrik-Foot recorded two key passes, 58 touches and five duels won for the midfielder.
The nature of his next move will therefore be significant for the Super Eagles. While a sale could help Marseille address its financial concerns, regular football will be more important for Nnadi’s international prospects.
With Nigeria’s November qualifiers against Tanzania approaching, the priority will be finding a club where he can play consistently each week, whether that is Marseille or elsewhere.
Soccernet has also examined the January situations involving Maduka Okoye and Tolu Arokodare.
Marseille’s decision in January will determine whether Nnadi leaves permanently, moves temporarily or remains at the club, with his playing time likely to be central to the outcome.
