Former referee hails Chibuike Nwaiwu after Trabzonspor’s wins over Galatasaray and Besiktas

Former referee and football commentator Bunyamin Gezer has praised Super Eagles central defender Chibuike Nwaiwu for his defensive performances during Trabzonspor’s victories over Galatasaray and Besiktas.
Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 4-0 before following up with a 2-0 win against Besiktas, results which underlined the team’s improvement under head coach Thomas Reis.
Nwaiwu has played an important role in that recent run, helping Trabzonspor maintain their defensive discipline against two of Turkey’s leading clubs. Reis’ approach has focused on defensive organisation and quick attacking transitions, with the team’s structure at the back becoming a notable feature of their performances.
Gezer singled out the Nigerian centre-back when assessing Trabzonspor’s displays, highlighting his contribution to the side’s defensive stability.
“Nwaiwu is very good in defence,” he said, as quoted by Taka Gazete.
The former referee was particularly impressed by the way Nwaiwu has helped Trabzonspor remain organised defensively. That consistency has strengthened the defender’s place in Reis’ defensive setup as the club continue their Turkish Super Lig campaign.
Nwaiwu has also made an impact in the attacking area this season, scoring one goal for Trabzonspor. His contribution at both ends of the pitch has further demonstrated his value to the team during their improved run of results.
Trabzonspor’s victories over Galatasaray and Besiktas have given them winning momentum, while Nwaiwu will now aim to maintain his form and continue producing consistent performances in defence and attack.
