Mbappe reaches Real Madrid landmark as Yamal struggles in 2-1 Clasico defeat

Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona exposed serious shortcomings for Hansi Flick’s side, while Kylian Mbappe reached a landmark and Lamine Yamal endured one of his most difficult nights in the biggest match of the season.
Mbappe was the decisive figure, scoring early before settling the contest in the 87th minute. His second goal came after a pass from Eduardo Camavinga and completed a standout performance in a match dominated by the French forward.
The result also saw Mbappe score his 100th goal for Real Madrid in only his 116th appearance for the club. He reached the milestone in one of the most demanding and high-pressure fixtures of the campaign.
For Barcelona, however, the attention quickly turned to Yamal. The Spain forward finished the game with five attempts but failed to put a single shot on target.
Barcelona fail to impose themselves
Spanish analyst Marcos Lopez said Barcelona’s performance represented more than an ordinary defeat when speaking on El Larguero on Cadena SER.
“For me, Barcelona’s biggest defeat is that they were not the real Barcelona,” Lopez said.
He praised Mourinho’s preparation for the match and criticised Barcelona’s lack of a response from the substitutes’ bench. Real Madrid, he said, controlled the areas of the pitch that suited them and executed their plan effectively.
“Real Madrid controlled the game in the area that suited them, and they did it brilliantly,” Lopez added. “Even from a tactical perspective on the touchline, Flick had no options to counter the plan Mourinho had put in place.”
Lopez also pointed to Barcelona’s difficulties in managing decisive moments. He said the same weakness had cost them against Paris Saint-Germain, with players including Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz involved in those situations.
“Barcelona’s first half was bad, very bad, and it is true that they do not know how to manage a match,” he said. “For me, that is a sign of immaturity.”
The criticism was then directed specifically at Barcelona’s attack, including Yamal, Raphinha and Gordon.
“Neither Gordon, nor Raphinha, nor Lamine stepped up,” Lopez said. “Lamine played badly, and there is no harm in saying that.”
Barcelona are scheduled to face Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on 31 October 2026. Racing Santander are due to play Real Madrid in La Liga on 01 November 2026.
