Nigeria pit in Pot 1 ahead of U17 Africa Cup of Nations draw

Nigeria U17 men’s national team have been placed in Pot 1 following the release of the procedure for the 2023 U-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by the Confederations of African Football (CAF).
According to the guidelines released by CAF, hosts Algeria, defending champions Cameroon, and Nigeria are placed in Group 1.
Group 2 has Senegal, Mali, and Morocco, while Group 3 has South Africa, Burkina Faso, Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, and Zambia.

The five-time champions won the WAFU-B qualifying tournament to book a spot in the 2023 AFCON, with the Golden Eaglets defeating all their opponents en route to winning the title.

The championship will feature 12 countries and will be staged in Algeria. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Algeria from April 29 to May 19, 2023.
The competition will serve as qualifiers for the FIFA U17 World Cup finals later in the year as the four semi-finalists will qualify to fly Africa’s flag.
