‘We did everything possible’ – Ann Chiejine on Abia Angels loss to Nasarawa Amazons

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Head coach of Abia Angels, Ann Chiejine has refused to blame her team for the disappointing result against Nasarawa Amazons after a 2-1 loss in Wednesday’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership match.
The Aba based outfit were overwhelmed by the visitors as goals from Dominance Odubanjo and Josephine Mattias in either half sealed their back-to-back defeats to the Solid Miners at the Enyimba International Stadium.
Mmesoma Ibe’s effort 10 minutes from time was not enough to rescue the home side from defeat and the former Super Falcons goalkeeper says she has no problem with accepting defeat against Christopher Danjuma’s ladies.
“I think we actually did everything possible to win this game but things did not actually go our way,” Chiejine told media.
“For my team, they actually wanted to play their style but in football sometimes you win or lose. Nobody wants to come to the field of play to lose. Whichever result that comes, we take it as it comes and prepare for the next game.
“Sometimes we do swap her. She can play from the centre forward or from the wing. She is a versatile player that can also play from the midfield. From the tactics we actually prepared for, that’s why she played from that position.
“The break kind of affects the team. I think they were a little withdrawn. Notwithstanding it’s good to have such a break. Since our opponents got a double win over us, we still keep playing. The league has not ended but it’s just starting.”
With 10 points after seven games, Abia Angels are tied on points with Confluence Queens and FC Robo Queens in Group B.
The team will hope to return to winning ways during its next NWFL encounter against Robo Queens in Lagos next Wednesday as Chiejine’s side will seek to avoid a third straight defeat for after a 2-1 loss to Nasarawa.
