Hobro IK Complete Signing of Onyebuchi Obasi

Hobro IK have confirmed the signing of Nigerian attacker Onyebuchi Obasi from Norwegian side Vålerenga on a three-year contract.

The 21-year-old becomes the Danish club’s fourth summer signing as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Betinia Liga campaign.

Obasi joined Vålerenga in 2024 on a long-term deal running until 2028 and spent part of his time in Norway on loan at FC Stockholm, where he gained valuable first-team experience. After two years with the Oslo-based club, he now begins a new chapter in Denmark.

Hobro IK Sporting Director Lars Justesen revealed that the club identified Obasi through its scouting network and data-driven recruitment process.

“We discovered Obasi through our network and then carried out extensive scouting using our data model. We wanted an explosive, quick and technically gifted attacking player, and Obasi stood out in those areas. He brings qualities we have been missing in our attack, and we are delighted to have reached an agreement with Vålerenga for his transfer. He is a young player with significant potential, and we look forward to helping him develop further,” Justesen said.

Obasi expressed his excitement about joining Hobro IK, describing the move as an important step in his career.

“I am very happy to join Hobro IK. From the first day, I have felt welcomed by everyone at the club. My conversations with head coach Jens Gjesing and sporting director Lars Justesen convinced me that this is the right move for my development.

“I am looking forward to wearing the yellow jersey and giving everything for the club on the pitch. I see myself as a fast, direct and hardworking player who always puts the team first, and I hope to help the club enjoy a successful season.”

The Nigerian forward has been handed the No. 29 jersey as he prepares for his first season with Hobro IK.
