Osimhen hits 19th goal of the season with eighth consecutive strike against Empoli

Victor Osimhen scored his 19th goal for Napoli as they defeated Empoli 2-0 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium.

The Super Eagles forward took his goal tally to an eighth consecutive Serie A goal this season for the Italian giants.

Napoli took the lead through an Empoli’s own goal in the 17th minute to give them the headway in the match.

Osimhen doubled the Naples’ advantage with a close range finish in the 28th minute. The Nigeria international was close to getting a brace six minutes later but it went to the awaiting hands of the Empoli goalie.

The former Lille goal poacher made history as he became the youngest player to score in eight consecutive matches at the age of 24 after former Cagliari player, Roberto Muzzi who scored in eight consecutive matches in 1995 according to Opta.

Luciano Spalletti’s side will welcome Lazio to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in their next game on Friday, third of March 2023.

Napoli seat top of the Italian Serie A with 65 points from 24 matches and now holds an 18 point lead at the top ahead of second place Inter Milan have 47 points from 24 matches.
