U20 Afcon: Nigeria to battle the Gambia in semi-final duel

The Nigeria U20 men’s national team will battle the Young Scorpions of Gambia in the semifinals of the ongoing U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
After picking ticket to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia slated for May on Thursday, both teams will slug it out for a final spot in the continental competition.
While pipping Uganda 1-0 courtesy of an own goal by Ibrahim Juma in the 30th minute to reach the last four, the Gambia annihilated debutants South Sudan 5-0 to set up a mouth-watering clash against Nigeria.
However, the Gambians remained unbeaten with a 100% record in the tournament winning all their Group C matches without conceding a goal and scoring 9 goals en-route semifinals.
Before thrashing the Sudanese, the Young Scorpions sting Tunisia 1-0 in their opening game, Zambia 2-0 in their second match and wrap up the group with a 1-0 victory against Benin.
Nigeria, on the other hand, started the tournament on a losing note after recording 1-0 defeat against Senegal to open Group B before bouncing back to pip the host Egypt 1-0 and finalized with a 2-0 victory over Mozambique.
