‘Don’t shame Nigerian men’ — Brown Ideye’s baby mama cries out over Ukraine woes

By Monsurah Olatunji
Former Nigeria international Brown Ideye has been called out again for negative reasons after he allegedly abandoned his two children – Joel and Michelle Ideye in Ukraine war amid Russia invasion.
According to his baby mama and ex-partner, Yana Voloshchenko, she met Ideye when he was playing at Dynamo Kyiv and they welcomed their first child in 2014.
However, the Nigerian initially refused to acknowledge the paternity of the baby birth by the Ukrainian-born psychologist. Later on, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner acknowledged paternity and agreed to pay child support after giving his last name to the kids, a commitment he could no longer keep recently.
In January 2022, the striker reportedly stopped paying child support, and Voloshchenko’s lawyers have been unable to contact him since.
Yana claims that she is trying to leave the country for the safety of her children due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, but having Ideye’s last name on the kids birth certificate is making her exit difficult.
Ideye who currently plays for Kuwaiti side, Al Yarmouk SC has been a daily headline on Yana’s Instagram page as she has dedicated her page to launch several media attack on the irresponsibility she is shown.
“Brown Ideye, don’t shame Nigeria and Nigerian men,” she posted recently as she littered her page with the kids birth certificate and international passport.

Meanwhile, Voloshchenko is not the first to accuse the Nigerian of abandonment after fathering a child.
In 2017, a Swiss court ordered Ideye to pay Francisca Errol $225,000 being child support for the son he allegedly fathered while he played for Neuchatel Xamax. Errol was the club’s secretary, while Ideye played there between 2007 and 2009.
The 34-year-old, however married to Damka Ideye and has two sons with her. He has played for several clubs in Switzerland, France, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Ukraine, and England.
