Gbenga Ogunbote promises improved NPFL campaign in second stanza at 3SC
By Saheed Afolabi
Shooting Stars gaffer, Gbenga Ogunbote is confident that the club will have an improved performance in the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign after a rough first round.
Despite having a tremendous preseason, 3SC were not able to replicate their success at the preseason in the first stanza of the NPFL, finishing in seventh with 10 points from nine games.
Reviewing the first round, Ogunbote said the first stanza results shouldn’t be associated with the preseason matches, while hinting about the fitness and readiness of Sikiru Alimi for the second stanza.
“Our first stanza results has nothing to do with the number of preseason matches we played,” the former Remo Stars and Sunshine Stars coach admitted.
“We have quite a number of players and no player played more than 20 games.
“Sikiru Alimi had a knock when he joined us and he’s back with the team. My target remains unchanged, which is to finish in an appreciable position.”
The return of prolific striker, Alimi will be a major boost to the Oluyole Warriors after falling short of expectations in the league.
On resumption of the NPFL, Shooting Stars will trade tackles with Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio stadium on the 26th of March 2023.
