NWFL Premiership MD14 Previews: Robo & Nasarawa in final day chase for Super Six

By Monsurah Olatunji

The 2022/23 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership regular season comes to an end on Wednesday, with Robo Queens and Nasarawa Amazons in final day hot chase for the last spot of this year’s Super Six playoffs.
Five teams already sealed their Super Six tickets, with Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, and Confluence Queens, joined unbeaten Delta Queens with a match to spare in the Super Six last Wednesday.
On the other hand, Osun Babes and Ibom Angels confirm their relegation from the topflight with a game to spare.
In Group A, defending champions Bayelsa Queens will welcome Naija Ratels to Samson Siasia Stadium.
Ratels held unbeaten Delta Queens to a goalless draw in their last home game of the season and will look to upset already qualified title holders Bayelsa away from home.
In Asaba, Delta Queens will host seven-time winners Rivers Angels at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, as they aim to finish the regular season unbeaten, having already qualified for Super Six with two matches to spare.
Their reversed fixture had ended in a goalless draw in Port Harcourt, but the Asaba-based team will want to avenge their controversial ruled-out goals on home ground.
Elsewhere, Heartland Queens will host Royals Queens as only goal difference separates the two sides in Owerri.
In Umuahia, Group B giants Edo Queens will lock horns with Abia Angels at the Umuahia Township Stadium in the last supremacy battle of the season.
Moses Aduku-led team are currently ahead of Confluence Queens FC and FC Robo in the race to top the group for the Super Six by one and two points respectively as they have already sealed their slot in the playoffs.
The Benin Arsenals are expected to go all out to ensure a win over the hosts, having been beaten 1-0 miraculously at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin by Ann Chiejine’ side, who will crave a double over the visitors.
In Keffi, Nasarawa Amazons will hope to get past the hurdle when they host Adamawa Queens at Snake Farm in the bid to edge FC Robo Queens to the last ticket for the Super Six.
A win for Amazons and a defeat for Robo will mean a Super Six slot for the Northerners while a draw for Robo will mean the Lagos Landladies qualify on goal difference, should Amazons fail to win by six-goal margin.
However, the Lagos Landladies will have to secure assuring point(s) against already qualified Confluence Queens to participate in the championship playoffs.
Robo currently seats third in group B with just two points ahead of Amazon. The Lagos-based Queens will be banking on their fans support to win their last home game when they take on their visitors from Lokoja.
