John Obi Mikel: Nigeria football icon returns to Chelsea

Former Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel will be making a return to England play for his former club, Chelsea in an exhibition match against Bayern Munich in September.
The exhibition match tagged “Legends of Europe”, was organized to commemorate one year remembrance anniversary of Chelsea legend, Gianluca Vialli who passed away last year.
The Blues’ team for the September match will be drawn from the squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2012.
Chelsea side defeated Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties in the final after 1-1 at regulation and extra times with Mikel playing a pivotal role in that successful season.
It will be an avenue for the players of both sides to reunite and share their memories of the final once again.
The Chelsea team will be coached by Roberto Di Matteo and captained by John Terry.
Mikel who is one of the most decorated footballers in Nigeria announced his retirement from active football in September 2022.
He’s won sevenrsl laurels and titles for both club and country, including the 2013 African Cup of Nations AFCON, Silver and Bronze medals at the Olympics, Premier League titles and Europa league title.
