Okiki Afolabi nets brace as Newroz pip Naft Missan in Iraqi League

Nigeria forward, Okiki Afolabi scored two goals to lead Newroz to a 2-1 victory over Naft Missan in the Iraqi Premier League encounter on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old striker was the hero of the day for the hostsas they celebrated their first win in five recent matches.

Newroz played out a drab first half draw with Naft Missan as chances came hard to find in the first 45 minutes of the encounter.

Afolabi rose to the occasion to power home the lead for Newroz in the 54th minute.

15 minutes later, Nigeria international, Afolabi netted his second of the match in the 69th minute to give Newroz a commanding lead.

However, Younis pulled a goal back for Naft Missan in the closing stages but Newroz were able grind out the triumph at the 15,000 capacity Sulaymaniyah Stadium.

The Wali Karim tutored side are in the 12th position in the Iraqi Premier League with 38 points from 29 matches. They will face Al Hudod in their next game on the 24th of May.
