Tijani Babangida offers Super Eagles tips to win 2023 Africa Cup of Nations

Former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida has revealed the secrets of winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the country’s senior men’s national team.

The three-time African kings are through to the finals in Cote d’Ivoire next year following a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone last month in Monrovia despite with a game to spare against Sao Tome and Principe in September.

Despite being wary of the tough oppositions, the former wing wizard has backed the Super Eagles to win the next AFCON in Ivory Coast, considering the nation’s talented group of top players home and abroad.

“I am very optimistic the Super Eagles can win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations if they truly approach it with the right mentality,” Babangida told Complete Sports.

“The crop of players in the team are very talented and can withstand any team at the tournament. Yes, it won’t come easy but I believe we can claim the trophy.”

Nigeria sealed a berth at the next AFCON in Ivory Coast after seeing off Sierra Leone 3-2 in Monrovia. The Super Eagles last won the AFCON in 2013, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 through Sunday Mba’s strike in South Africa.
