Naija Super 8: Akwa United pip Rivers United to semi-final place

Akwa United secured a 1-0 win over Rivers United to earn its second win in the Group B clash of the Naija Super 8 championship at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.
Uche Collins’ second-half strike earned Akwa United a 1-0 win over Rivers United and helped the Prosperity Boys seal a spot in the semi final at the maiden edition of the tournament.
The win over Rivers United was the Promise Keepers’ second win in two games in the tournament after their 2-1 opening triumph over Yobe Stars in group B at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Uche Collins who was voted Hero of the Match, out-muscled his marker in the 57th minute before calmly slotting the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Abiodun Akande to guarantee his team’s success following a spectacular second-half performance to win what was a south-south derby.
The second group match between Lobi Stars and Yobe Deserts Stars ended in a 0-0 draw.
Akwa United who entered the tournament as a wild card team will face Lobi Stars on Wednesday in their last group B game that will determine the leadership of the group and they will know their semi final opponent after the last round of matches.
Fatai Osho’s team stay top of group B table on six points, followed by Lobi Stars who are on four, while Yobe Stars have one point and Rivers United are without a point after two matches.
