Erik ten Hag to target Denzel Dumfries in Man United squad overhaul

Erik ten Hag to target Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries for Old Trafford move

The impending squad overhaul and reshuffle at Manchester United set to be pursued by incoming boss Erik ten Hag this summer continues to be linked with a swath of transfer speculation in recent weeks in the wake of the Red Devils confirming his future appointment, and the Dutch tactician has now set his sights on a potential upgrade in the right-back position in the first-team.

As per reports from Italian outlet Tuttosport and cited by Sport Witness, Dutch international and former PSV Eindhoven standout Denzel Dumfries is now high on Ten Heg’s priority list as the vitally important summer window approaches.

United would be expected to stump up at least €35-million for the 26-year-old Rotterdam-native, who Ten Hag will know exceptionally well during his steller period with PSV across three highly-successful seasons.

Links to the 32-times-capped right-back would make plenty of sense as well after reports surfaced just a few days ago that current right-back and England international Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not viewed as one of the core group of players that Ten Hag looks to form a nucleus around at United, and has himself been subject of transfer speculation linking him to return home to Crystal Palace in the summer.

It is thought that United continues to keep tabs on Frenkie de Jong – another player Ten Hag knows well – for a potential summer move as the current AFC Ajax boss looks to hit the ground running in a vital rebuilding period in the northwest of England, while the future of Donny van de Beek could be given a second chance upon his arrival.

Should Dumfries arrive at the Theatre of Dreams, he would be one of the three or four players Ten Hag will look to secure this summer to focus on the long-term potential of the club’s project under his guidance.

With Pau Torres, Aurelién Tchouameni, and Christopher Nkunku also reported on the Manchester United shortlist of potential transfer targets, the squad rebuild could be off to a flyer if all their prime targets are secured before the beginning of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
