Rumour Mills: Chuba Akpom set for Ajax Amsterdam move amidst Lens interest

Nigeria-eligible forward, Chuba Akpom has decided to join the Dutch side, Ajax Amsterdam.
Ajax are set to beat French side, Lens to the £10m signing of the Middlesbrough forward. Both clubs [Middlesbrough and Ajax] agreed a fee for Akpom on Sunday but he will now travel to Amsterdam for a medical.
The forward played a key part in Boro’s campaign in the second-tier English Championship scoring 29 goals in 42 games in all competitions.
The former PAOK player had a year left on his contract with the club after they triggered a year extension in January.
Akpom started his career with another English side, Arsenal before joining Greek outfit, PAOK on a permanent deal in 2018. He joined Middlesbrough for a fee of £2.75m in September 2020.
On 4 March 2023, Akpom scored 2 goals in a 5-0 home win against Reading, in the process becoming the first Middlesbrough player to score 20 league goals in a season since Bernie Slaven in 1990.
On 19 April 2023, he scored in a 3-1 home win over Hull City, becoming the first player to score in nine successive home games in the second tier of English football.
Ajax finished third in the Dutch Eredivisie last season and had an outstanding 4-1 win over Heracles on Saturday.
