2024 WAFCONQ: Nigeria progress after Sao Tome and Principe withdrawal

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team are through to the second round after their first round opponents Sao Tome and Principe in this month’s Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers pulled out.
NigeriaFootball understands, the Central African national pulled out due to administrative reason just few days after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had announced its roster to prosecute the game.
The latest development had seen NFF write clubs about Sao Tome and Principe’s withdrawal from the game and cancellation of invitation for the botched doubleheader, with the first leg which was slated to take place on Friday, 22nd September, with the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, 26th September.
The Super Falcons will now face the winner of another first-round fixture between Cape Verde and Liberia, in the second-round stage slated for the period 27th November – 5th December.
The nine-time African champions have qualified for every edition of the WAFCON and will be eager to book their place at Morocco 2024 in a quest to claim their 10th title nexy year on the North African soil.
