NFF to Expand CAF B Coaching Courses to States, Strengthen Grassroots Football Development – Ibrahim Gusau

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to grassroots football development and accessible coaching education following the successful conclusion of the CAF B-License Refresher Course in Abuja.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Wednesday evening, Gusau commended participants and stakeholders for their dedication throughout the four-day programme. He said coaching education in Nigeria has witnessed remarkable progress since the current NFF administration assumed office.
“When we came in, the situation was not particularly great with regards to coaching education. I believe you can all attest to the fact that significant progress has been made in this area, with the numerous courses we have had and our country’s return to the CAF A-License convention,” Gusau said.
He assured coaches that the Federation remains committed to creating an enabling environment for coaches and players to develop and excel.
Addressing concerns over outstanding certificates for coaches who completed the CAF B-License course years ago, Gusau disclosed that the NFF is working closely with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure all eligible coaches receive their certificates.
The NFF President also announced plans to decentralize CAF B-License training across the country, revealing that the Federation now has enough qualified instructors to organize courses in states, zones and local government areas.
“You can be in your state, and the course will be at your doorstep. We need to educate our grassroots coaches. That is the way to go for holistic development of the game,” he said.
Gusau emphasized that football coaching has become increasingly scientific and technical, making continuous education essential for coaches to remain competitive. While noting that CAF regulations limit participation in the A-License course, he pledged that the Federation would continue to provide development opportunities for coaches nationwide.
A total of 50 coaches, trained in two streams, participated in the refresher programme, which commenced on Sunday and concluded on Wednesday.
The closing ceremony was attended by NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi (MON); NFF Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen; Head of Coaching Education, Dr Terry Eguaoje; Director of Media and Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire; Coach Abdulrafiu Yusuf; and President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Coach Ladan Bosso.
