Nigerian Midfielder Sunday Stephen Pursues Top Form in Spain Ahead of MLS Resumption

In a strategic move to maintain peak fitness levels, Nigerian midfielder Sunday Stephen has embarked on a dedicated training regimen with a Spanish club as the American Major League Soccer (MLS) prepares to resume. The seasoned player, currently plying his trade with Real Salt Lake, took the decision to curtail his holiday in Nigeria, opting instead to travel to Spain for specialized training.

Formerly associated with Valencia and Alanyaspor in Turkey, Stephen emphasizes the importance of staying in optimal condition to deliver his best performance when the MLS season recommences. “As a footballer, you need to be fit so that you can give your best. I called some of my coaches in Spain, and they said I could come over to train with them,” remarked the midfielder, expressing his commitment to personal improvement.

With an eye on the coveted Super Eagles squad for the upcoming World Cup in Russia, Stephen is diligently working towards a national team recall. Reflecting on Nigeria’s impressive achievements, including World Cup qualification, he conveyed his aspirations, stating, “I am impressed with what the Super Eagles did last year, mostly qualifying for the World Cup, and as a Nigerian, I want to work hard to see if I could get a recall to the team for the World Cup.”

In addition to his immediate focus on MLS duties, Stephen remains open to the prospect of returning to European football in the near future, underlining his dedication to continual professional growth. As he undertakes rigorous personal training in Spain, Stephen’s ambitions align with both club success and potential national team recognition, showcasing his unwavering commitment to excellence on the football pitch.
