“We didn’t underrate them” – Semi Ajayi defends Nigeria’s draw against Lesotho

By Wale Mustapha

Nigeria defender, Semi Ajayi has leaped to the defense of his Super Eagles’ team mates who have been criticized for their performance in 1-1 draw against Lesotho on Thursday.

The Super Eagles were tipped to have a convincing win over the Crocodiles of Lesotho but were held to their jugular having to labor for a point in their opening 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

It was Ajayi who scored the goal with a header off a delivery from Kelechi Iheanacho to cancel out Mothlomelo Mkwanazi’s goal for the visitors.

While many soccer faithful felt the Super Eagles underrated their opponents, Ajayi insists the team was just unlucky as they prepared more than enough to record victory just as he assured Nigerians of an improved outing in subsequent games.

“It was unfortunate we could not win, but honestly underrate them (Lesotho) in any way.

“Like other games, we prepared for this game and we put extra effort into as we knew its important to start well, we were just unlucky with chances.

“I can assure you that we will more composed and clinical in the other games and well make everyone proud,” he assured.

Up next for Super Eagles is against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
