Abia Angels Stun Rivers Angels to Climb to Second in NWFL Premiership Super 6

Abia Angels recorded a memorable 1-0 victory over Rivers Angels on Matchday 2 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super 6 at the Adokiye Amasiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The decisive moment came in the 26th minute when Winner David rose highest to head home a perfectly delivered cross from Usani Miracle, giving Abia Angels a crucial lead against one of the league’s most successful clubs.

Despite Rivers Angels’ efforts to find an equaliser, Abia Angels remained resolute defensively and held on to secure all three points in a fiercely contested encounter.

The victory lifts Abia Angels to second place on the Super 6 standings with four points from two matches. They began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa Queens on Matchday 1 before following it up with this impressive triumph.

The result represents one of the standout performances of the tournament so far, with Abia Angels overcoming one of the NWFL’s most decorated teams on their home ground in Port Harcourt.

For Rivers Angels, the defeat is a significant setback in the race for the Super 6 title. Having dropped valuable points on home soil, they now face increased pressure in their remaining fixtures as every result becomes crucial in determining the championship winner.

Abia Angels, meanwhile, will take confidence from the victory as they continue their pursuit of a strong finish in the competition.
