Judith Benson Confident Abia Angels Can Finish Super Six Campaign Strongly

Abia Angels head coach Judith Benson has maintained that her team remains determined to end their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six campaign on a high despite settling for a goalless draw against Nasarawa Amazons on Matchday 4.

The newcomers secured a valuable point in a tightly contested encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Friday. The result leaves Abia Angels fourth in the standings with five points heading into their final fixture against FC Robo Queens on Sunday.

Reflecting on the draw, Benson disclosed that her side made significant adjustments following their disappointing 6-2 defeat to Edo Queens in their previous outing.

“We lost our last game by a wide margin against Edo Queens, so we went back to the drawing board to address the mistakes we identified,” Benson said.

“We made some important changes, including tweaking our formation. That was why we approached today’s game with greater intensity. Our target was to win, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get the victory. However, we are grateful that we did not lose.”

The coach reiterated that Abia Angels arrived in Port Harcourt with ambitions beyond simply participating in their first-ever Super Six tournament.

“As first-time participants in the Super Six, we didn’t come here just to be part of the competition. We came here with the aim of achieving something significant and even challenging for the title,” she stated.

With one match still to play against FC Robo Queens, Benson remains optimistic that her side can conclude an impressive debut Super Six appearance on a positive note.

“We know the areas where our players need to improve, and we will continue working on those weaknesses. Our focus now is to tighten those loopholes and compete strongly against FC Robo Queens in our final game.”
