Abasiofon Uwah Breaks Silence on NWFL Golden Boot Controversy

Rivers Angels forward Abasiofon Uwah has addressed the recent Golden Boot award controversy, expressing gratitude to fans and clarifying her position following the conclusion of the season.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Uwah thanked everyone who reached out in support and explained her reaction during the award presentation.

According to the striker, both she and fellow top scorer Atume gave their all throughout the season and finished as joint leading scorers. However, when only one award was initially presented, she held on to the trophy because it symbolized the hard work, sacrifices, and dedication she invested during the campaign.

Reflecting on the incident, Uwah admitted that she could have handled the situation differently.

“Atume and I both gave everything this season to finish as joint top scorers. When only one award was presented, I held on—not out of greed, but because I had poured my heart into this season and that trophy represented every sacrifice I made. Still, looking back, I could have handled that moment better, and I acknowledge that,” she said.

The Rivers Angels star also dismissed suggestions of any rift between herself and Atume, emphasizing the mutual respect they share both on and off the pitch.

Uwah commended the league for resolving the matter by ensuring that both players received their awards, describing the decision as the right outcome.

She concluded by dedicating the achievement to her teammates, coaches, and supporters who stood by her throughout the season.

“To my teammates, my coaches, and every fan who stood by me, this achievement belongs to all of us. Thank you.”
