Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi has revealed that the Super Eagles were made to labour for their 1-0 over Guinea-Bissau in the last match of African Cup of Nations, AFCON Group A clash on Monday.
The three times AFCON winners had to rely on an own goal scored by Opa Sangante in the first half to secure victory and a passage to the knockout stage of the tournament.
Alex Iwobi who was a second half substitute in the match noted that the Djurtus came with the believe of winning the match hence their extra efforts which made it difficult for the Eagles.
Of course, it was difficult. They changed a lot of their players and I feel that they came with the mindset that they had players that are ready to express themselves.
“So, it was always going to be dangerous for us but the main thing is that we were able to get the three points and go through to the next round,” he said.
The Super Eagles who eventually finished second in the group behind Equatorial Guinea will be waiting to know their next opponent in the Round of 16 after conclusion of matches on Tuesday in Group C.
