Nigeria winger Moses Simon celebrated winning the Man-of-the-Match for a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau in Abidjan.
The Nantes winger started for the first time in the competition, was crucial to Nigeria’s triumph as the Super Eagles got the only goal in the 36th minute, thanks to a regrettable own goal by Sangante of Guinea-Bissau resulting from a Simon’s cross.
The result helped Nigeria finish the group stage in second place just behind Equatorial Guinea on goal difference in Group A, thereby qualifying them for the Round of 16.
The 28-year-old forward had been criticized with some fans saying he squandered a clear chance despite creating the only goal of the game.
However, he was selected as Man of the Man of the Match by CAF and despite what Nigerians are saying, the Super Eagles star celebrated his award.
“In good shape, both physically and mentally, I attempt many things, even if the outcomes don’t always align with my intentions,” he told CAF media.
“I position myself where I am needed. Our primary goal was to secure a victory, ensuring our qualification for the knockout stage and avoiding complicated calculations.”
