Bayern set to reward Max Eberl with new deal after Ismael Saibari transfer push

Bayern Munich are moving towards extending the contract of sporting director Max Eberl beyond 2027, with senior figures at the club said to be fully satisfied with his recent work and keen to end earlier speculation over his future.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reports that all current indications point to Eberl signing a longer agreement, adding there have been no signs of an early departure – “quite the opposite”, in his words.

Honorary president Uli Hoeneß publicly rowed back on previous doubts about Eberl’s position and issued a personal apology on Thursday for questioning his future before the DFB-Pokal final.

Hoeneß said: “I was very angry with myself. I did not deal with Max properly before the cup final (when I questioned his future with Bayern Munich), and I apologised to him.”

Pressed on whether Bayern would now renew Eberl’s contract, Hoeneß was emphatic: “At the moment, I would say there is a 100% chance this will happen.”

Board to discuss Eberl future in August

According to Plettenberg, Eberl’s contract situation is expected to feature on the agenda of Bayern’s supervisory board meeting scheduled for August.

Hoeneß and other board members are described as being particularly pleased with the club’s early planning for squad reinforcement, with recent signings viewed as evidence of Eberl’s effective work in the transfer market.

Their satisfaction has been strengthened by the arrivals of German defender Nathanael Brown and Morocco international Ismael Saibari, both secured as part of Bayern’s early recruitment strategy for the coming seasons.

Hoeneß has been especially impressed by Saibari, revealing that the midfielder had caught his eye on the international stage. The honorary president noted that the Moroccan “stood out” to him at the 2026 World Cup, underlining the club’s belief that the signing could prove significant.

Focus turns to potential departures

With those deals now in place, Bayern’s hierarchy are shifting their attention towards outgoings in the current transfer window.

Plettenberg reports that the club are now concentrating on players who could leave this summer, with Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza among the leading candidates to depart.

All three are understood to feature prominently in internal discussions over possible exits as Bayern look to balance their squad after early incoming business.

Eberl’s position strengthened

The combination of early transfer planning, high-profile endorsements from influential figures such as Hoeneß and the strategic clarity shown in both arrivals and potential departures has significantly reinforced Eberl’s standing inside the club.

While the final decision rests with the supervisory board, the mood around Sabener Straße is that Eberl’s future lies firmly in Munich, with only the formalities of a new, longer-term contract still to be agreed.
