CHAN Qualifier: Agyemang Badu foresees disaster if Ghana lose to Nigeria

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Ghana men’s national team midfielder Agyemang Badu says it will be a disaster if they fail to beat Nigeria.

Both sides played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg of 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Qualifiers in Accra, Ghana on Sunday.

The Black Galaxies must secure a favourable result in the second leg to stand a chance of making it to consecutive CHAN tournament.

The Black Stars failed to qualify for next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and Badu is foreseeing another disaster if the home based team falter to Super Eagles on Saturday in the return leg.

“We should be very careful not to go and defend,” he said as reported by Joy Sports.

“This is only one game and when you lose, you are not going anywhere. We can’t do that [lose] because mind you, we didn’t qualify for the [2025] Africa Cup of Nations.

“If the CHAN too, we don’t qualify, then there will be a little bit of disaster, so we will support them, pray for them, they [Galaxies] should go all out and win the game for us in the return leg,” he added.

The second leg of the fixture, set for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, with the winner on aggregate to represent WAFU B at the biennial championship reserved exclusively for professional footballers plying their trade in their country’s domestic leagues.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania are the co-hosts of next year’s tournament.
