Claude Puel’s Leicester City Triumph Over Everton in Commanding 2-0 Victory
Claude Puel ushered in his tenure as Leicester City manager with a resounding 2-0 Premier League triumph over Everton at the King Power Stadium on Sunday. The former Southampton boss marked his debut with a convincing win, featuring standout performances from Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and an impactful substitution by Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
Ndidi, earning his tenth start of the season, played a pivotal role in midfield, showcasing his defensive prowess for Leicester City. Puel strategically utilized Iheanacho, naming him on the substitutes’ bench, and the Nigerian forward made a late appearance in the 89th minute, replacing Jamie Vardy.
The Foxes secured their back-to-back victory with first-half goals from Vardy and Demarai Gray, both orchestrated through swift counter-attacks. Gray, instrumental in the attacking moves, played a crucial role in setting up Riyad Mahrez, who, in turn, provided the assist for Vardy’s close-range finish. Gray’s dynamic performance continued as he contributed to the second goal, with a low cross that forced an own goal from Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny.
Puel made strategic adjustments to his starting lineup, including recalls for Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray. The changes proved effective, with Leicester City maintaining their pace in the second half, keeping Everton at bay.
The victory marks a positive start for Puel, instilling a renewed sense of confidence in the Foxes. Meanwhile, Everton’s struggles continue, with only one win in their last nine games. As Puel shapes his vision for Leicester City, the team’s impressive form raises expectations for a promising future under the French manager’s guidance.
