Copenhagen Police Launch International Hunt for Akinkunmi Amoo

Copenhagen Police have launched an international manhunt for former FC Copenhagen winger Akinkunmi Amoo, who is believed to have fled Denmark to avoid serving a one-year prison sentence after being convicted of rape and other sexual offences.
While Danish broadcaster TV 2 Sport initially withheld the player’s identity in line with its editorial policy, Danish outlet Bold later confirmed that the individual being sought is the former Nigeria youth international and 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup star.
Authorities said Amoo has been remanded in custody in absentia, with efforts underway to locate and extradite him to Denmark so he can begin serving his sentence.
The 24-year-old was found guilty by the Copenhagen City Court in June 2023 on charges of assault, rape involving a sexual act other than intercourse, and attempted rape.
Amoo appealed the verdict, but the Eastern High Court dismissed his appeal in 2024 after he failed to appear for the hearing, making both his conviction and one-year prison sentence final. His lawyer at the time said his absence was due to visa-related issues.
Following his conviction in 2023, FC Copenhagen transferred Amoo to Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia. However, the club terminated his contract after the appeal was dismissed and the conviction upheld.
The Nigerian winger later signed for Chinese club SH JD Huilong in February 2025 but became a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the year.
Amoo’s current whereabouts remain unknown, although reports have linked him with a possible move to Thailand as Danish authorities continue efforts to track him down.
