Edo Queens reach WAFU B Women’s Champions League final with emphatic USFA win

Edo Queens secured their place in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League final by defeating hosts USFA 5-1 in a one-sided semi-final on Wednesday.

The Nigerian champions took control of the contest in the 17th minute when Atume Doosuur opened the scoring. Her finish gave Edo Queens an early advantage and set the tone for a commanding performance against the home side.

USFA struggled to contain their opponents as Edo Queens continued to press for a second goal. That reward arrived shortly before half-time, with Chioma Moses doubling the Nigerian side’s lead two minutes before the interval.

The Benin City club then strengthened their position further in first-half stoppage time. Valentina Uroko produced a superb long-range free-kick to make it 3-0 and leave USFA facing a difficult task after the break.

Edo Queens showed no sign of easing off once play resumed. Doshima Tarnum added a fourth goal shortly after half-time, extending the advantage and putting the result beyond serious doubt.

The Nigerian champions completed the scoring from open play two minutes after the hour mark. Aminat Folorunsho found the net to make it 5-0 and cap a remarkable attacking display from Edo Queens.

USFA managed to score a late consolation from a free-kick, but the goal did little to alter the outcome or diminish the scale of Edo Queens’ victory.

The result sends Edo Queens into the final, where they will meet either Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa or Benin Republic’s Dynamique FC. The other semi-final will determine which of those two sides challenges the Nigerian champions for the trophy.

Edo Queens’ route to the final follows their earlier progress against ASEC Mimosas, whom they edged to reach the semi-finals. They then produced their most decisive performance of the competition so far, scoring five times against USFA and confirming their status as one of the leading contenders in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League.

USFA, who had home advantage, were unable to recover after conceding three times before the interval. Edo Queens’ combination of early attacking pressure, an outstanding free-kick from Uroko and continued attacking intent after the restart ensured the Nigerian champions advanced in emphatic fashion.
