Enzo Fernandez transfer talk plunged into turmoil after brother’s Instagram jibe at Jude Bellingham sparks Real Madrid fan fury

Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been thrust into an awkward dispute with Real Madrid supporters after his brother posted a mocking Instagram story aimed at Jude Bellingham in the wake of Argentina’s World Cup semi-final win over England.
Instagram post ignites backlash
Fernandez’s name had been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he was tipped to form a high-profile midfield partnership with Bellingham. Those rumours intensified after the 23-year-old scored Argentina’s equaliser in their 2-1 victory over England, capitalising on England’s decision to sit deep after taking the lead under Thomas Tuchel’s tactics.
But the celebrations after the final whistle spilled far beyond the pitch.
While Argentina’s players and families were jubilant, Enzo’s brother Seba Fernandez took the festivities a step further on Instagram. In a story shared with his 26,000 followers, he posted an image showing Enzo celebrating while Bellingham lay on the turf, adding the taunting caption: “مع السلامة يا بيلينجهام” – “Goodbye, Bellingham”.
The post quickly went viral among Real Madrid fans and triggered a wave of anger online, with many supporters questioning Fernandez’s suitability for a future move to the Spanish giants.
‘You don’t have the greatness to play for Madrid’
The backlash in the comments was swift and unforgiving.
One Real Madrid supporter wrote: “بيلينجهام افضل بكثير من انزو، وتقول له مع السلامة!” – “Bellingham is much better than Enzo, and you say goodbye to him!”
Another replied: “انت حقا مثير للسخرية!” – “You are really ridiculous!”
A third fan delivered an even harsher verdict, saying: “اخوك يسخر من بيلينغهام في قصصه وهو يلعب في النادي الذي يسعى انزو للانضمام اليه.. انت لا تملك العظمة او الرقي للعب في مدريد” – “Your brother mocks Bellingham in his stories while he plays for the club Enzo is trying to join… You don’t have the greatness or class to play in Madrid.”
The episode risks complicating public sentiment around Fernandez’s long-rumoured transfer prospects, at a time when Bellingham has become a central figure at Real Madrid and a favourite among the club’s fanbase.
Mixed messages from Enzo’s brother
The controversy also jarred with a heartfelt message Seba had posted earlier, in which he praised Enzo’s performance and character.
“لا اجد الكلمات لاصف مدى فخري وسعادتي. احترافيتك واداوك اليوم يجعلان من حقك ان تقول انك تصنع التاريخ. احبك وادعو الله ان يباركك دايما” – “I can’t find the words to describe how proud and happy I am. Your professionalism and your performance today make it your right to say you are making history. I love you and I pray that God always blesses you.”
That emotional tribute has now been overshadowed by the mocking Instagram story, which many Madrid fans have interpreted as disrespect towards Bellingham and, by extension, their club.
Real Madrid move firmly dismissed
The incident comes against the backdrop of ongoing speculation over Fernandez’s future. Despite the rumours, Real Madrid have already taken the unusual step of publicly distancing themselves from any move for the Chelsea midfielder.
Translated, the statement reads: “In light of the information that has appeared regarding an alleged interest in Enzo Fernandez, the club confirms that it has made no direct or indirect efforts to sign him, and does not intend to pursue such a deal. We express our deep appreciation for a great player whose history and talent are widely admired, as well as for Chelsea, a club with which we maintain an excellent relationship.”
The combination of Madrid’s formal denial and the latest social media storm may cool talk of Fernandez ever joining Bellingham in the Spanish capital – at least in the eyes of a significant section of the Bernabeu faithful.
