Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has provided a positive update on Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who has been sidelined with an abdominal injury since Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.

Awoniyi suffered the injury after a collision with the goalpost during the Premier League clash and subsequently underwent surgery. The Super Eagles forward was ruled out for the remainder of the season following the incident.

Speaking ahead of Forest’s final league game against Chelsea, Santo expressed optimism about Awoniyi’s recovery.

“He (Awoniyi) is much better. He is already able to walk,” the Portuguese coach told the club’s official website.

“The doctors informed us that he has already resumed normal activities with his foot, so he is much better.”

The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout the season, limiting his appearances for Forest.

His absence has also allowed teammate Chris Wood to move ahead of him in the striking order.

Despite being unavailable for the remainder of the campaign, the latest update offers hope that Awoniyi will be fit in time for the next season.
