Former Super Eagles Defender Taye Taiwo Joins Finnish Club RoPS on a One-Year Deal

In a significant move, former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo has officially signed with Finnish Veikkausliliga side Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS) on a one-year deal. The experienced left-back, who has previously played for European giants such as Marseille, AC Milan, and Dynamo Kiev, expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career.

Taiwo’s arrival at RoPS reunites him with head coach Toni Koskela, who served as his assistant during their time together at HJK, another Veikkausliliga club. Koskela praised Taiwo, describing him as a “clear leader and winner on the field” and highlighting his physical prowess and potent left-footed shot.

In a statement to the club’s official website, Taiwo shared his motivation for joining RoPS, citing his positive history with Coach Koskela. “I was motivated to work with him again. This is also a real dream job to be a soccer player. You can never know which country you are going to find the next day, and now I can bring my expertise to Rovaniemi Palloseura,” he remarked.

The 32-year-old defender also provided insights into his playing style, emphasizing his determination to control the game. “In the field, I do not like to give the opponent room to play; I do not want to give the adversary the pleasure they can control, but I want to be the one who plays and controls,” Taiwo stated.

RoPS and Taiwo are optimistic that their collaboration will contribute positively to the team’s performance, showcasing Taiwo’s wealth of experience and defensive skills in the upcoming season.
