Gent Triumphs with Kalu’s Stellar Performance; Oostende’s Akpala Falls Short in Defeat

In a remarkable display of skill and resilience, Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu orchestrated a triumphant return for Gent, securing a 2-1 away victory against Genk in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday. Kalu, a pivotal force for Gent, showcased his prowess by not only netting the second goal in the 77th minute but also contributing an assist to Burger Verstraete’s opening goal in the 11th minute. This victory marked a crucial rebound for Gent, who suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Oostende the previous weekend. Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti, fellow Nigerian stars, exhibited commendable performances for Gent, contributing to the team’s cohesive effort on the field. The win rejuvenated Gent’s campaign, solidifying their standing in the Belgian top flight .Meanwhile, in another gripping encounter, Joseph Akpala’s valiant efforts for Oostende fell short as they squandered a 2-0 lead, ultimately succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Uche Agbo’s Standard Liege. Akpala, doubling Oostende’s lead in the 45th minute and providing the assist for their initial goal, showcased his goal-scoring prowess. However, Agbo’s late introduction proved instrumental for Standard Liege’s comeback.

The defeat marked the end of Oostende’s impressive five-game unbeaten run, consisting of three victories and two draws. Despite Akpala’s contributions, Oostende was unable to maintain their lead, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the Belgian Pro League.
