Joel Obi Faces Uncertain Return Date as Torino Conducts Further Tests

In a setback for Torino, midfielder Joel Obi may be forced to endure a prolonged period on the sidelines due to his ongoing injury. The 26-year-old Super Eagles player is set to undergo additional tests on his anterior hip muscle next week, as the Serie A side intensifies its efforts to restore his full fitness.

Completesportsnigeria.com has learned that Obi will miss Torino’s upcoming Serie A home clash against Lazio on Sunday. Currently undergoing therapy, it is anticipated that he will require an extended layoff, further delaying his return to the pitch. Obi was absent from Torino’s recent 2-1 defeat to Atalanta, highlighting the severity of his condition.

Italian website, toro.it, reported on Friday that Torino is closely monitoring the fitness progress of both Obi and Antonio Barreca, an Italy U-21 defender. Following the therapy sessions on Thursday, it was determined that neither player is nearing full recovery. Consequently, fresh medical tests have been scheduled for them.

In the current Serie A season, Obi has made 22 appearances, scoring five goals and providing two assists. Despite his absence, Torino currently holds the 10th position in the Italian Serie A table with 47 points from 34 games. With only four matches remaining, the team will have to navigate the final stretch without the influential presence of Obi.

The news of Obi’s prolonged injury layoff has raised concerns among fans and teammates alike. Torino will undoubtedly miss his contributions as they strive to end the season on a high note. The club’s medical staff is working diligently to ensure a swift and successful recovery for the Nigerian international.
