Joel Obi Remains Unused Sub as Torino Seals Serie A Season with Victory

Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi found himself on the bench as a 10-man Torino concluded their Serie A journey with a triumphant 2-1 away win against Genoa on Sunday.

Despite being included in the Super Eagles’ 30-man provisional squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Obi remained an unused substitute, capping off a season where he made 22 league appearances and scored five goals. His final match for Torino dates back to a 1-1 home draw against AC Milan on April 18.

The scoring initiative for Torino was spearheaded by Iago Falque, who netted in the 30th minute, followed by Daniele Baselli, doubling their advantage in the 58th minute. However, Genoa narrowed the deficit with Goran Pandev finding the net with 10 minutes left in the game.

Torino’s victory was marred by a red card as Cristian Daniel Ansaldi was sent off, reducing them to 10 men for the remainder of the encounter.

Concluding their 2017/2018 campaign, Torino secured a 10th-place finish, amassing 54 points over the season. The victory against Genoa served as a fitting conclusion to their Serie A journey, showcasing their resilience and fortitude in the league.

Despite Obi’s absence from the field in their final match, his contributions throughout the season were significant, marking a chapter in his tenure with Torino. As the Serie A season draws to a close, Torino’s efforts in securing a top-10 finish signify a commendable campaign in Italian football’s prestigious league.
