Leon Balogun Confirms Steady Recovery From Rib Injury Amid World Cup Concerns

In a reassuring update, FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun, 29, has moved to dispel concerns surrounding his availability for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The defender, who missed the last two league fixtures against Augsburg and Leipzig due to a rib injury, shared an optimistic update on his recovery via Twitter, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com.

Despite Mainz manager Sandro Schwarz expressing Balogun’s inability to fully participate in training during the pre-match press conference before the Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund, the determined centre-back has now provided a positive outlook on his fitness.

“Back on track 👟⚽️💥,” reads a tweet from Balogun’s official Twitter handle, accompanied by a snapshot showcasing him actively engaged in training.

Balogun, who last featured for Mainz in their 2-0 triumph against Freiburg on April 16, has accumulated 14 appearances in the Bundesliga this season. Despite his notable contributions, he is set to part ways with the club at the end of the season, with his contract expiring in June.

As the defender remains committed to regaining full fitness, the Nigerian football community anticipates his triumphant return to the pitch, alleviating concerns about his potential absence from the national squad for the upcoming World Cup.
