Michael Folorunsho: Monza plot move for Napoli midfielder under contract to 2029

Italy-Nigeria midfielder Michael Folorunsho of Napoli is being linked with a move to Serie A rivals Monza as the Brianzoli explore options to strengthen their central midfield before the new season.

Folorunsho, 28, returned to Napoli this summer after a loan spell at Cagliari and is tied to the reigning Italian champions until 30 June 2029, a contract that would likely force Monza to negotiate a fee rather than pursue a cut‐price deal. His current market valuation is around €5m, providing an initial reference point for any talks.

The Rome-born midfielder has been on Napoli’s books since 2019 but has built his reputation largely away from the club through a succession of loans. Across Serie A he has made 81 appearances, scoring seven times and adding one assist, experience that appeals to Monza as they look for a physically imposing, right‐footed option in the middle of the pitch.

Folorunsho’s recent career has featured productive spells in Serie B as well, where he has 18 goals and seven assists in 88 appearances, underlining his ability to contribute in both penalty areas. His versatility in central midfield has seen him trusted in different systems during loans at Cagliari, Fiorentina, Hellas Verona, Bari, Reggina and Pordenone.

Last season brought a high point when he was part of the Napoli squad crowned Italian champions in 2024–25, adding top-level pedigree to his profile just as Monza weigh up their next move. For now, however, Folorunsho remains a Napoli player on a long-term deal, and any transfer would require the club’s willingness to cash in on a midfielder they have repeatedly opted to send out on loan rather than sell.
