Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, featured prominently for Tianjin Teda but could not prevent his team from succumbing to a 2-1 away defeat against Jiangsu Suning in the latest Chinese Super League (CSL) encounter on Sunday.
The match unfolded with a stalemate, keeping both sides at bay until Jiangsu Suning found the breakthrough in the 75th minute, courtesy of Richmond Boakye. Two minutes later, Alex Teixeira further extended the lead with a well-taken goal in the 77th minute.
Despite a late resurgence from Tianjin Teda, exemplified by Johnathan’s goal in the 81st minute, it only served as a consolation, as the visitors failed to overturn the deficit. The defeat marks Tianjin Teda’s second loss of the new CSL campaign, adding to their one win and one draw before the international break.
Currently occupying the ninth position in the 16-team CSL table with four points, Tianjin Teda faces the challenge of regaining momentum in the highly competitive league. Mikel Obi’s presence on the field showcased his commitment, but the team ultimately fell short against Jiangsu Suning’s determined performance.
As the CSL season progresses, Tianjin Teda will look to bounce back and capitalize on Mikel Obi’s leadership to secure more favorable outcomes in the upcoming fixtures.
